Back to Laos
By Tessa Bunney on 20 September 2011Tomorrow in the early hours I will be beginning my long journey to northern Laos. For the first time I have decided to travel overland from Thailand directly to Luang Nam Tha province. It seemed a good idea at the time to fly from Bangkok to Chiang Rai and then cross the border at Houay Xay, however the flight times changed after I booked it and I now have a 12 hour connection at Bangkok airport!!
This will be the first time I have visited Laos in the rainy season and it will be fascinating to see the Mekong at this time of year. Perhaps not so good for travelling in remote areas and hiking but we shall see.
I have a full couple of weeks travelling from Luang Nam Tha province to Luang Prabang and then to Xiang Khoang province. Thank you to Arts Council England for funding this research trip.
